Leyton Orient will take a narrow advantage into next week’s FA Trophy semi-final second leg after a 1-0 win over AFC Telford United in the first leg at the Breyer Group Stadium.

Macauley Bonne netted the only goal of the game nine minutes into the second half for the O’s against the National League North side.

Dale Gorman and Jamie Turley came into the starting line-up in place of Joe Widdowson and Josh Coulson while youngster Josh Koroma returned to the bench.

Bonne had the first chance of the game after just five minutes when Gorman’s free-kick was beaten away into his path, but he was unable to direct his header on target.

Orient remained comfortable for the first half, dominating possession, and they had a glorious chance to take the lead just before the break when Brophy found Jobi McAnuff on the edge of the box, whose shot was saved by Andy Wycherley, but the ball fell to Bonne, who took a touch and fired wide of the target.

Coulson was introduced at the break in place of Sam Ling, and he and Marvin Ekpiteta prevented Telford from opening the scoring when they put pressure on Daniel Udoh to fire wide.

The hosts then went up the other end and scored the only goal of the afternoon when Turley’s ball in found the head of Matt Harrold, and he nodded the ball down for Bonne to gather and fire in on the turn.

Ten minutes after the opener, Koroma was introduced for his first appearance since the win over Maidstone United earlier in the year.

There was one final chance for the O’s to take a stronger lead into next week when Turley headed Brophy’s cross back across goal, but Shane Sutton got back just in time to clear off the line.

Nevertheless, Orient will go to New Bucks Head with the advantage next Saturday for the return leg, with a trip to Wembley at stake.
