Waltham Abbey had a mixed Easter weekend in the Bostik League South Central Division, losing 3-0 at home to Westfield before producing a 3-2 win away at Ware.

A loss in their last game ended any chances of Ware reaching the play-offs, but they were still above Abbey in the table and expected to get through this game on Monday.

That looked like happening when Jordan Watson scored with his first touch of the game after coming on as an early substitute, but Malik Nosike was left unmarked to head home a corner and draw Abbey level.

A quickfire double from Ellis Brown in the second half gave the visitors a two-goal cushion, and even though Albert Adu reduced the deficit to just one, Abbey held on to take maximum points.

Three second half goals against fifth-placed Westfield on Saturday confirmed a play-off place for the visitors, while it also extended Abbey winless run.

A fairly uneventful first-half prevailed, but the plan fell apart for the home side in the 68th minute when an own goal handed Westfield the advantage.

George Frith then effectively made the points safe on 75 minutes and then, three minutes later, Aaron Watson added the third of a whirlwind 10-minute period and consigned Abbey to defeat.
