The annual West Essex Table Tennis Tournament was held recently at Woodford Wells.
Defending champion Sal Ahmed met Denny Gabriel, who had only just reached the qualifying age, in the Over-40s Singles final. Gabriel looked to be on the verge of causing a shock when he took Ahmed to a fifth and deciding game, but he lost that by a narrow score of 11-9.
In the Veterans Doubles final, favourite Dave Page and Paul Pells came out on top against Ray Brown and Mike Ward, and Pells then faced up to Brown in the Over-60s Singles final, in which the former prevailed 11-7, 13-11, 11-6.
In the Over-70s Singles final Ward overcame Alan Rosenfield and, in the Restricted Singles for players below division one, the final was won by Rohit Sood, who beat Stephen Hawkins.
