Leyton Orient Women ended their season with two defeats, firstly going down 1-0 in the Capital Cup final against Actonians before suffering a 2-1 defeat at home against Crawley Wasps Ladies in their last league fixture.

Jessica Byrne scored the decisive goal in last week’s final after 78 minutes, sweeping home the winner to break Orient hearts.

Sophie Le Marchand returned to the side in place of Connie Montiel-McCann in the only change for the O’s.

Both sides struggled to settle in what was a scrappy game, with Le Marchand going the closest for Orient when her fierce strike was beaten away by Paige Horsnell.

Even the second half did little to separate the two sides, although the O’s arguably created the better chances in the game.

However, with 12 minutes to go, Actonians snatched the advantage when Byrne converted the opening, and ultimately winning, goal.

Orient came desperately close to a late equaliser late on when Hayley Barton’s volley crashed off the post, but that chance was to be their last and the trophy went to Actonians.

Things didn’t get any better in the final league match either as Orient were beaten by champions Crawley Wasps.

Darcey James and Naomi Cole scored either side of Lisa Holmback’s equaliser for the visitors, who have already wrapped up the South East Division One title.

James opened the scoring after only four minutes when she fired in from the edge of the area, but Holmback prodded home before the break to level.

However, the game was won in the second half when Cole coolly stepped up to convert a penalty and seal the three points.
