Two boxers from East London Boxing Academy were in action on Friday night at the England Boxing Championship Belt Show in Dagenham.

Following their performances at the National Championships earlier in the season, Jack Daly and Uzair Maqbool were selected to compete for the vacant Southern Area belts; Maqbool in the under-18 youth flyweight division and Daly in the senior cruiserweight division.

Maqbool came up against former nemesis Ellis Trowbridge of Guildford Boxing Club and son of former world champion Duke McKenzie in his bout.

This was a rematch where Ellis has previously won a close bout over Maqboor, but with a few weeks of serious training and the game plan, Maqboor was a completely different boxer and executed the plan to perfection, dropping his opponent in the last round and wining four of the five judges’ cards.

Next up for East London was Daly who, having lost a close debatable decision to the senior elite champion Keiron Gilpin over a month ago, was looking for vengeance against Woking’s Dean Freeman.

Daly hurt his opponent a number of times and showed a great set of skills, clearly winning the bout across all of the judges’ cards, making East London Boxing Academy the only London club to win two championship belts.
