Leyton Orient were beaten 3-0 away at Macclesfield Town in their first away game of the season on Saturday.

Theo Archibald curled in a stunner to give the Silkmen a one-goal advantage at the break, while second-half strikes from Paddy Osadebe and Theo Vassell wrapped up the points.

The same starting 11 that took to the field last week against Cheltenham Town did so again on Saturday, while Joe Widdowson returned to the bench in place of Ruel Sotiriou.

Josh Coulson and Josh Wright both had chances to break the deadlock inside the opening 20 minites, but neither did enough to cause any trouble for Owen Evans in the Macclesfield goal.

Then, on the half-hour mark, Sol Campbell’s side took the lead in spectacular fashion when Archibald collected the ball 25-yards out and curled an effort over Dean Brill and into the top corner.

Orient made a much brighter start to the second half than they had in the first and a decent spell of possession almost turned into a goal, but Evans got a strong hand to Dan Happe’s powerful header to keep him out.

The introduction of Louis Dennis initially caused some problems for Macclesfield, but they rode the danger and went on to double their lead shortly after, Osadebe racing through one-on-one with Brill and supplying a cool finish.

Macclesfield then rubbed salt into the wounds with a late third as Jak McCourt’s corner found the unmarked Vassell to easily head in, condemning the O’s to a 3-0 defeat.

Next up for Orient in the long trip down to Plymouth Argyle for the first round of this season's Carabao Cup. Kick off is at 7.45pm at Home Park.
