Waltham Forest Amateur Boxing Club’s Oliver Tanner saw off Marston's Brian Fletcher in an eagerly anticipated rematch.

Tanner, who had recently beatem Fletcher in the final of the Junior Novice Class A under-57kg national championships, looked bang up for the Bedford ABC show on Monday night.

The 15-year-old started brightly and went on to box the perfect fight. Working well off his jab, he landed some good combinations to dominate every round to land a majority decision from the judges.

Also on the same show 14-year-old Alex Loveman was unable to keep up his recent winning run after losing out to East Coast’s K White.

Loveman boxed well throughout, although his opponent was able to just step up that extra gear in the final round of a tight contest to take the verdict from the officials.

The previous week on the Cheshunt show he had worked well off his left jab to score a majority decision against home boxer T Caulan.

Reflecting on events, club secretary Ian Cuddy said: “Firstly I would like to thank coaches Ken Oram and Simon Copping for taking the lads out to these shows.”

He continued: “Oliver showed real class in his fight, especially as the lad and his club were bang up for gaining revenge for his win in the national final.

“Alex has also displayed what he can do in his two fights and while he will be disappointed not to have backed up his win the other week, I’m sure this narrow defeat will make him realise what he needs to do to improve in his next contest.”
