Ross Embleton feels he needs to get better at understanding different referees after he was shown a yellow card in Saturday’s win over Cambridge United.

The Leyton Orient boss was told by the fourth official that the card was shown because he swore, but referee Trevor Kettle informed Embleton it was for shouting.

It came just four weeks after Embleton was sent to the stands for a spat with Forest Green Rovers boss Mark Cooper in the November defeat.

Speaking after Saturday’s game, Embleton said: “It’s probably something that I’ve got to get better at, understand who the referees are and what their names are and what they’re capable of.

“A lot of the boys said to me before the game when they saw that his name was on the team sheet that it was going to be a long afternoon. I think he showed that.

“My booking was a really surreal one because the fourth official called him over and said ‘can you have a word’ and he just ran over with the yellow card, so he hadn’t even worked out what it was that was going to go on.

“I said to the fourth official ‘why did I get booked?’ And he said ‘because you swore’. Then the ref ran over and said I’d been shouting and I said ‘well it’s part of my job, isn’t it?”

“Although they’ve got their earpieces in they don’t seem to be able to communicate well enough. There’s some strange things that went on today.”
