Aristos Pampouris collected a winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 circuit at Fareham Snooker Club but it was not the one he really wanted.

The 19-year-old from Chingford beat O’Shay Scott (Eastleigh) in the single-frame final of the Plate competition for those not qualifying for the knockouts in the main events.

Pampouris had missed out on a place in the Gold Tour knockout on frames difference in a tough group.

He had beaten Shane Kearns (Swindon) 2-0 and Dan Sykes (Chandler’s Ford) 2-1 but lost 2-0 to Ryan Hughes (Chandler’s Ford) and 2-1 to Bradley Cowdroy (Bournemouth), the eventual tournament winner.

It came five days after he was informed by the English Partnership for Snooker and Billiards that he had qualified for the junior play-offs in Chesterfield in April.

Pampouris, who finished in sixth place on the Under-20 Regional Development Tour South, will join 17 other players from across the country in a battle for four spots on the national under-21 circuit.

Top Spot Snooker Club, Havant, hosts the eighth legs of ten on Sunday, March 15.
