Hasnan Ali secured a silver medal at the England Boxing National Youth Championships at the weekend.
The East London Boxing Academy super heavyweight secured his place at the Championships after defeating Ethan John Frost in January’s London rounds.
Saturday saw Ali go up against unbeaten development champion Billy Hipperson from Eastbourne Boxing Club.
His 6’7” opponent was outclassed though as Ali put in a powerful performance and was the aggressor throughout to set up a showdown with reigning youth champion and European medallist William Howe.
The Sunday bout was two national champions go head to head in the main event, with Howe into the final by default and refreshed having not boxed on the Saturday.
It was a close fight throughout and both boxers claimed victory at the sound of the final bell, but the referee docked a point from Ali in the final stanza, resulting in Howe getting the decision.
The two boxers agreed to a rematch, which could be at the East London Boxing Academy show in April at the Royal National Hotel but may also occur at the British Championships later this year.
