Leyton Orient’s position in League Two for next season is all but guaranteed barring a miraculous swing in form once the campaign resumes.

Nobody knows yet when exactly that time will come given the suspension of the current season until at least the end of April.

It’s been a topsy-turvy season for the O’s in many ways, with current head coach Ross Embleton technically having three stints in the role while Carl Fletcher’s surprise tenure was brought to a swift end less than a month in.

On the pitch, too, there have been patches of poor form alongside great sequences such as the seven-game unbeaten home run, which still stands at the moment.

Although the league table may look disappointing to some, this was always going to be a difficult campaign given the events of last summer, and the players that have stepped up with the club from the National League have largely shown that they are back where they belong, just as the club is.

Below are our five picks for the player of the season so far, as well as a poll so that you can select your vote for who you think deserves the award.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Conor Wilkinson

Many will argue that the role of a striker, or even a forward player these days, is to just score goals. In that sense, the summer signing from Dagenham & Redbridge may wish to have done better, notching five before the season’s suspension.

However, Wilkinson offers so much more than just goals. His versatility in the forward line has often seen him shunted out to the wing, something that Embleton feels he is more than capable of. His trickery and ball control for someone at this level is second-to-none, and you only need to look at the striker’s goals against Port Vale and Walsall earlier in the season to get a glimpse of the quality he possesses.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Ousseynou Cisse

Cisse only joined the club in January on a loan deal from Gillingham, but the effect he has had on the team means he deserves his place in the list.

The Mali international has provided a calmness in midfield, sitting in front of the central defensive pairing and allowing both Craig Clay and Josh Wright to flourish in a slightly more advanced midfield role.

It’s certainly no fluke that Orient’s home form has picked up since Cisse’s signing and it will certainly be hoped that the momentum continues when the season resumes.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Josh Wright

Justin Edinburgh’s last signing at the club currently leads the way in the club’s scoring charts, notching eight goals from midfield.

He provides energetic and passionate performances each week and his strong relationship with the O's is clear to see in every game that he plays.

He earned the club a big win on the opening day of the season, scoring the only goal in the win against Cheltenham Town and his performances will no doubt earn more points in the remaining games.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Craig Clay

Aside from a brief spell out of the team before the Christmas period, the energetic midfielder has had another good season with the O’s.

Although he rarely finds the net, he’ll often have a big hand in goals, whether it be a bursting run from midfield or playing the vital pass.

Even if the move does break down, he’ll always be ready to get back and do his defensive duties, proving that he a vital part of the squad.

Epping Forest Guardian:

Jordan Maguire-Drew

Maguire-Drew is just one goal behind Wright in Orient’s scoring charts this season and he has certainly made the step up after joining the O’s midway through last season’s National League campaign.

The wide-man looks at home in the Football League and the quality of his goals (like *that* free-kick away at Cambridge) is surely among the best in the division.
